Rod Mills

Rod mills are used to obtain a product size below 2mm. With the rottaion of the mill, collision and attrition forces grind down the material in the mill chamber. The rods act as the grinding media where rods create linear contact with each other and the material is either crushed or ground. The crushing force of rod mills is always greater than its grinding force, making the mills act as an advanced crusher that ensures the production of very fine particle sizes. Rod mills are recommended generally for the production of goods for up to 200 microns.

The required mill size and attributes can be determined by analyzing the ore characteristics, the feed size, the desired product size, the grinding circuit type and the desired hourly capacity and output. We are happy to work together with our clients to create the optimum dimensions for the requested rod mill. .

In most wet process rod mills, the mill is lined with steel lining. Rubber lining is not recommended as it contains the risk of rods being lodged into the rubber. However, there are certain applications where the mills centre is lined with steel while rubber lining is implemented for the mills heads.

In dry grinding processes, the rod mill is completely lined with special steel liners. The lining alloy contains manganese which is important for strengthening impact resistance, and also chromium which provides abrasion resistance to the lining.

Our clients are in most cases provided with the option to decide the lining type to be used in their rod mills. There is also the option of the client providing their own lining should they choose, where we are ready to supply the mill without lining. The lining operation can be conducted on site.
